Generally understood as an abbreviation for Crap Cleaner, CCleaner does exactly what it sounds like -- it cleans the crap out of your system. Visiting Web sites, installing and uninstalling software, and going about your daily business on your PC leaves behind files and traces of your activity that eventually "gunk up" your PC and slow down its performance. CCleaner looks for and clears out temporary files, Internet cache, remaining bits of uninstalled software, and broken links and entries in your registry. CCleaner wont magically make your five-year-old bargain PC run like a brand-new gaming rig, but it will noticeably improve its speed in most circumstances.
